I have a DVD player with DivX support...now how to get it onto the big screen....?
If you already have the movie in .AVI format (DivX), then all you will need is to write it as data to a DVD-R or CD-R like you would any other file. If it is a valid divx file and you can play it in the DivX player on your PC, then your player should handle it fine. However, if you downloaded this file offline, it can be hard to tell how it was encoded. AVI files come in a lot of forms. For example, DivX & XviD, both use the avi extension. While these two are comparable for the most part, some players have difficulty decoding certain versions of XviD files. Also, the audio can be encoded in any number of formats. FLAC is popular, so is AC3, AAC, but mostly MP3 is used. So the short answer is to burn it to a disk, pop it in and see if it plays. If you are looking to encode a DVD to AVI, then you will need a special application for that like the DivX Converter or Handbrake. Also, if you are having trouble finding out what type of encoding was used on the file, try a small program called G-Spot. It will tell you more than you need to know. Finally, if your player has trouble with files encoded with newer versions of DivX, then you might be able to update the firmware of the player to support it. Philips does this. Good Luck!
